The Sandton SPCA invites members of the community to a CNN SPCA Kilimanjaro Summit Launch on 17 November.

The launch will feature a documentary film compiled by news network CNN of the 22 people who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in October to raise funds for the Sandton SPCA.

General manager of the Sandton SPCA Jaco Pieterse said, “The purpose of the event is to broadcast what climbers did in their expedition to summit Kilimanjaro. We hope that through the screening, we can recruit more people to take part in the challenge next year.”

Pieterse said the event raised just more than half a million rand for the Sandton SPCA and they hoped to double that total next year. “We are desperate for funds to get more people out there to do more work to assist animals.”

Pieterse said it costs R6,5 million to run the Sandton SPCA per year and they are dependent on the assistance of the community to keep the SPCA functioning.

The informal event, to be hosted at the SAP auditorium at 1 Woodmead Drive will include a talk about the Kilimanjaro Challenge and a film about the climb. Guests will receive free popcorn and a drink.

Funds raised through the event will be added to the total funds collected by the Kilimanjaro Challenge and ultimately be put towards the important work of the SPCA.

“The more support we receive, the more help there will be for animals,” added Pieterse.

Details: Tickets for the event cost R150 or R75 for children under 12 and can be purchased online at www.sandtonspca.nutickets.co.za/6642.

The event will take place in Woodmead from 4.30pm to 8pm.
