Gauteng Night Run kicks off Arnold Classic Africa

The Gauteng Provisional Government unveiled the Gauteng Night Run which will kick off this year’s Arnold Sports Festival Africa, at Sandton Sun Hotel on 12 April.

The 8km run will start at Crawford College on 16 May.

Faith Mazibuko, MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation said, “I am excited to partner up with this year’s fourth annual event that will help people pave their way to a healthier lifestyle. This will promote a healthier nation. I welcome everyone to come and run, let’s fill up the streets.”

The ambassador for the event is long-distance runner Mapaseka Makhanya, SA sportswoman of the year 2013 and runner-up in the Soweto Marathon 2017.

When asked how she felt when she got the phone call to be the ambassador she said, “I was so excited that I was jumping up and down on my bed. I mean it is the biggest event in Africa how could I not be excited?”

“We welcome the news of this run on the eve of our three-day festival and promise that we’ll meet all entrants [3 000 expected] at the start line come 16 May. The Gauteng Provincial Government is to be commended on their efforts of highlighting the importance of exercise, which is why we did not hesitate to join forces for this race,” said Wayne Price of Gentle Giant Promotions.
