Marks Park Cricket Club made history in the Enza Premier League this year

EMMARENTIA– This is the first win of a competition for the club in more than 25 years.

History has been made at Marks Park Cricket Club (MPCC) after they won the Enza Premier League.

This is the first win of competition for the club in more than 25 years. Marks Park remained unbeaten in all their league games this year and captain of the team Zakir Kathrada said he was thrilled with the outcome.

“To win the league for the first time is really exciting. Such an amazing victory, we have shown others that it is possible. It’s nice to know that a team who won the league was a team who comes from all walks of life,” he said.

Kathrada mentioned that being a close-knit team added to their success.

“Staying consistent is important and keeping that consistency has been amazing. We have sort of a family unit and I think that is why we will remain unbeaten.”

Kathrada added that the restructure of Central Gauteng Lions would create a lot more opportunities.

“It’s exciting for me and the club and now that we have gone through a restructure in club cricket we are at the forefront. I’m looking forward to club cricket reaching a higher level of professionalism.”
