Update 13:30

One person has been killed and another three injured during an alleged shooting incident on the Woodmead bridge over the M1 highway on June 30.

ER21 spokesperson Russel Meiring has confirmed that paramedics arrived on scene at 10:53 where several vehicles were found in the middle of the road.

“On closer inspection, medics found a male security guard lying in the road while three patients were found lying inside a light motor vehicle.”

Meiring said that, upon assessment of the patients, medics found that a passenger in the car has sustained fatal injuries while the driver and security guard were in critical condition. The other occupant sustained minor injuries.

“Medics treated the patients and provided the two critically injured with advanced life support. Shortly after, the security guard was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a private hospital while the other was transported by ambulance,” said Meiring.

The patient with minor injuries was transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

He added that the driver was unfortunately declared dead at the scene.
