Talent agent and actress shares tips for success
ILLOVO – Verlinden said she soon realised that her real passion was to help others to achieve their full potential.
Fourways resident and director of 33 and Me Talent Agency, based in Illovo, Elsubie Verlinden says she eats, sleeps and breathes entertainment.
She has spent most of her adult life assisting and inspiring young singers, dancers and models to achieve their dreams.
Verlinden began modelling at age 12. When told that she was too short to become a runway model, she went on to build a sustainable acting career.
Her credentials span some of the country’s biggest film and television productions including Mr Bones 2, Binnelanders, Egoli, Scandal and more.
Verlinden said she soon realised that her real passion was to help others to achieve their full potential. Her agency has since booked over 1 500 TV commercials locally and internationally.
She shared the following tips to local artists wanting to build a sustainable career in the entertainment industry:
- When presented with an opportunity, always do your research. Research the institution or company and find out exactly what they are looking for
- Prepare. Invest time into your craft daily and do your best to grow your skills and expertise in the field of passion
- Treat everyone with kindness. The industry is small. Never treat anyone based on their titles. Treat each person equally
- Be consistent and never let your guard down. Be professional at all times
- Brand yourself. Establish who you are and what you stand for, both professionally and personally
- Obtain skills through training. Research your craft and empower yourself
- Never compare yourself with others. Trust the process and stay focused on your own lane
- Surround yourself with people who motivate and drive you. Have a fair balance between those you uplift and those who uplift you
- Acknowledge that your talent is a gift that must be shared. Strive to be fashionable, dress up, show up and know that your personality, posture and presence is what people feel and see first. First impressions last
- Know what you stand for and you won’t fall for everything the industry has to offer.
