WENDYWOOD – Since the lockdown, the network has made weekly donations of food, clothing, activity packs and household goods, appliances and furniture to people in need in Alexandra, Marlboro and the surrounding areas.
The power of the community has proven evident for the Wendywood and Morningside Manor Community Action Network (Can) this year.
Since the lockdown, the network has made weekly donations of food, clothing, activity packs and household goods, appliances and furniture to some of its eight beneficiaries in the Alexandra, Marlboro and surrounding areas
According to the network’s Sharon Lefkowitz, this would not be possible without the support of the community. “We have [even] had children donation sandwiches, dry soup packs and activity packs for community hours.”
Lefkowitz added that its focus going into the new year will be to ‘teach a man how to fish. “As such, we have been facilitating an entrepreneurship course over six weeks, October to November, where various facilitators have covered course content to help guide participants on how to start their own businesses as well as how to prepare a CV, do a job search and learn interview skills.”
In December, the group hosted also hosted its Santa gift drive to collect and donate gifts for the children in the area.
