An intersection in Bordeaux is becoming a muddy eyesore due to enormous holes after a water pipe burst.
Newly-elected Bordeaux North Residents Association committee member Kelly van der Meer said residents in the area have waited patiently for days since logging the fault with Joburg Water and Johannesburg Roads Agency.
Since then, municipal workers have blocked off the corner of Maxwell Avenue and Main Street. They have also filled one of the holes in the ground but dug another one up.
Apparently, water is still leaking from a pipe underground.
“For the safety of our children, something must be done,” Van der Meer said.
“There are many risks to having this hole in the open road, and it is also affecting traffic in the area.”
Ward 102 councillor David Potter said, “On my last escalation to Joburg Water they had referred the matter to their internal department to trace the source of the water. Trusting that Joburg Water will find the source of the water, repair it and follow through with the repair of the road as soon as possible.”
Joburg Water spokesperson Puleng Mopeli said the matter would be attended to.
