Proudly South Africa hosts wine expo at Sandton
Sandton Convention Centre welcomes winemakers and lovers to the wine expo hosted by Proudly South Africa in hopes of putting local brands first.
Wine fanatics situated in Sandton were more than pleased to have the wine expo hosted by Proudly South Africa right on their doorstep.
The event had an abundance of wine sellers, connoisseurs, sommeliers and visitors all lined up and ready to taste the finest locally produced wines at the Sandton Convention Centre.
The Proudly South Africa team opened their doors to the public– with and those without an invite – to a wine gathering that started from July 7 to 9. Many individuals took the time to experience a world filled with vast information on their favourite topic.
Winemakers in the facility shared their wine journey with guests during the course of the event. A participant, Khensani Shikwambane, discussed her reasons for loving wine and which wine she prefers on certain days.
“Wine takes me on a different journey. So for instance, I enjoy white wine during summer time especially when I’m out with my girls for lunch. Red wines are more for the days where I want to connect with myself. So that’s basically my winter drink when I come back from work on a Friday afternoon, I just crack open a bottle of red wine and read a book.”
One of the biggest highlights of the expo was the food pairing with wine session on the main stage. Natasha Williams, who is no stranger to the field of wine tasting and making, asked a few brave individuals to join her up on stage for a drink and a meal. This proved that there are types of wines meant for specific food which does enhance the taste of the drink.
Guests were given the opportunity to interact with the man of the hour, CEO of Proudly South Africa, Eustace Mashimbye. “We are trying to encourage more of our South Africans to buy locally as this will benefit our society and economy. There are important jobs in different sections that involve winemaking: from farming to packaging, everyone plays a significant role in the industry and that is what we are trying to showcase in this expo.”
