Marlboro businesswoman drives tourism in the community
Meet Rachel Phasha, the powerhouse behind Khavho Travel and Tourism looking to open the community up to domestic and international tourist alike.
Local business women Rachel Phasha continues to shine a spotlight on tourism and the importance of exploring one’s community.
Phasha, an accredited, qualified tourist guide and trainer, is the managing director at Khavho Travel and Tours in Marlboro.
With the end of Women’s Month in August and the start of Tourism and Heritage Month in September, the City of Johannesburg’s Tourism Department is shining a light on some of the remarkable local women in the industry. “[We want to] shine the spotlight on some of the brightest stars in the tourism and lifestyle sector, making Joburg the exciting, vibrant hub it is,” says Johannesburg Tourism destination marketing manager Lumka Dlomo.
While Phasha’s special interest and passion lies in her home town of Alexandra, Khavho Travel and Tourism offers rural and urban packages throughout South Africa.
The company caters to both domestic and international clients for both leisure and corporate.
“In addition to English, I speak basic German and my guides are also proficient in a range of languages, including French, Portuguese, Spanish and Mandarin.”
She added that creating a link between business and community is one of the Khavho’s main objectives.
“In the past seven years, we’ve hosted the Johannesburg Global Business Experience, an annual programme of the London Business School that focuses on understanding and revitalising micro-businesses in Alexandra.
“Currently 186 enterprises are supported with administration and marketing strategies, ensuring a reliable, authentic African travel experience with adequate health and safety measures in place.”
