Meet the 70-year-old Khali Jamnda who is still active in sports

Bowls is a game that truly transcends age and is open for enjoyment by anyone, regardless of their age.

Born third in a dynamic family of four in the East Rand, surrounded by three loving brothers. Khali Jamnda is 70 years old and currently resides in Buccleuch, Johannesburg.

During Covid-19, she began playing bowls and cricket.

Bowling had always caught her curiosity, and she found its appeal among the older generation enthralling.

“I found the attire brown shoes paired with crips white garments – highly appealing as a proponent of orderliness. I had no external inspiration to take bowling; I had played golf for years and with my transition into retirement, I found it fitting to embrace this new sporting pursuit,” said Jamnda.

Jamnda is competitive by nature in whatever she is tasked to do or undertakes to do. Right from the beginning she was playing to win games.

“In my first competition, I came second. For me that was not good enough, But, it was a start,” said Jamnda.

Long hours of practice do not bother her as she is now retired and stays alone.

“I have become more competitive, and I grew in the game. I try to practice three to four times a week,” said Jamnda.

“My most vivid childhood memory is steeped in the role I cherished as the family’s binding force, their unifying element. I fondly remember the times I spent with my nuclear and extended family in our home filled with laughter, shared stories, and mutual support,” added Jamnda.
