Mandela’s spirit continues to shine in Sandton
Sandton welcomes another artful-tribute to legend, Nelson Mandela.
Nelson Mandela’s legacy, stature, and omnipresence were celebrated at the launch of WE LOVE MANDELA.
Guests from the diplomatic community and the art world attended the exhibition held at The Marc in Sandton on November 7.
On display is a selection of artworks collected by The South African Gold Coin Exchange (SAGCE) & The Scoin Shop. This is an opportunity to see over forty works created by 19 artists working in various mediums. Celebrated artists include Simon Stone, Ed Chapman, Jane Makhubele, Wakaba Mutheki, Collen Maswangani, Johannes Maswangani and Jodie Bieber. For memorabilia enthusiasts, this exhibition offers a fascinating collection of mementoes and souvenirs connected to Mandela.

Rael Demby, CEO of The South African Gold Coin Exchange & The Scoin Shop said, “December 5 marks 10 years since Madiba was put to rest. Today, there are over 40 statues, landmarks and monuments around the globe, from Soweto to Sandton to Stellenbosch…There are thousands of murals, artworks and books from world-renowned artists and authors, and of course, there are coins and medallions; all with one common theme – to celebrate and remember the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela.”
This is yet another feather in the cap of Sandton which already boasts the bronze Mandela statue in Nelson Mandela Square, standing 6 metres tall and weighing 2.5 tons. It was unveiled in March 2003 marking 10 years of democracy.
