Update: Bypass leaks detected as Illovo pipe repairs continue

Leaks have been found on the bypass as Johannesburg Water continues work on the Illovo reservoir and tower system.

Johannesburg Water has confirmed that the Illovo water systems remain open at 50%, with closures scheduled from late evening to early morning to help boost the reservoir capacity.

Johannesburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala said, “Water is gaining strength, and this is managed by using pumps. Both the valve and the pipe are fully exposed, and leaks have been detected on the bypass.”

“We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.”

In areas where there is no water supply, Johannesburg Water will provide an alternative water supply in consultation with the relevant ward councillors.
