SA brands shine bright at 15th Annual Brand Africa 100 | South Africa’s Best Brands Awards
Local names GALXBOY and Maxhosa rose among global giants as South Africa’s most admired African brands at the awards signaling Africa's creative move.
South Africa’s top brands were honoured at the 15th Annual Brand Africa 100 | South Africa’s Best Brands Awards, held at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), in partnership with Business Day and Brand South Africa, on June 13.
Global sportswear giant Nike retained its title as Africa’s most admired brand for the eighth year running, however, local streetwear names GALXBOY and Maxhosa made headlines by topping the list of most admired African brands in South Africa, alongside Bathu, which ranked as the most admired apparel brand continentally.

Thebe Ikalafeng, Brand Africa founder and chairperson, addressed the awards. “Although global brands continue to dominate South Africa and the continent, the rise of new-generation brands signals Africa’s creative move.”
Ikalafeng added that 32% representation of South African brands affirms South Africa’s leadership as a brand-led and creative nation.
MTN received the grand prix as the most admired African brand for its leadership in sustainability, digital inclusion, and environmental stewardship. “MTN’s impact goes beyond telecoms; it’s a symbol of African resilience and innovation,” Ikalafeng said.

He also pointed out that Woolworths took home the grand prix as the most admired South African brand, recognised for its consistent commitment to sustainability and social impact, while Shoprite/Checkers earned the grand prix for sustainability, for its role in job creation and digital transformation.
Absa’s Sydney Mbhele was honoured with the Africa Brand Leadership Excellence Award. “This award is not just for me, but for every African marketer who dares to dream and build brands that reflect who we are.”
