Motorists in Kew can finally breathe a sigh of relief as Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) carried out pothole repairs at the corner of 10th Road and 4th Avenue, as well as along affected sections of 4th Avenue, following weeks of deteriorating road conditions that forced residents to take temporary action.

JRA carried out the repairs on February 9 after complaints from residents, motorists, and ward representatives, who raised concerns about safety risks caused by deepening potholes, loose gravel, and eroded asphalt, particularly after heavy rainfall in December.

The repairs follow earlier reports by the Sandton Chronicle highlighting how residents resorted to filling potholes with soil to reduce damage to vehicles and avoid swerving into the oncoming lane while awaiting official repairs.

Ward 81 councillor Joanne Horwitz said this outcome demonstrates the value of

“After sustained engagement, the long-awaited repairs at the intersection of 4th
Avenue and 11th Road in Kew have finally been completed. Residents, Ward 81 urban
inspector Thalu Malaudzi and I consistently logged and escalated the
deplorable condition of this road, while the Sandton Chronicle helped shine a
necessary spotlight on the issue. Today, we are pleased to see this important stretch of road restored,” Horwitz said.
