Johannesburg Roads Agency sets new date after Parkmore joint inspection no-show

JRA has set a new inspection date following a failed February visit, while residents await action.

Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has scheduled a new date for a joint inspection of the Parkmore sinkhole and damaged storm water drain after a previously planned site visit failed to take place.

The inspection, which was initially scheduled for the last week of February to address sinkhole and storm water drain issues on 4th Street and 5th Street, will now be conducted on April 9, in co-ordination with Johannesburg Water (JW).
In September last year, JW told the publication that the issues relate to a borehole water and it’s therefore fall outside JW’s mandate.

In October, JRA said they previously logged a service request and exploratory excavations would be conducted to determine the source of the leak. Should the matter be a JW pipe, the pipe should be repaired and the road be reinstated.

Responding to the renewed media enquiries, JRA regional operations manager Khayalethu Gqibitole said both teams need to conduct a joint inspection to determine the way forward.

JRA said it had communicated with JW and the joint site inspection was scheduled for the last week of February. However, the inspection did not take place. New dates were set but were not me, and JRA attributed the delays to JW.

“JRA has been available to undertake the site visits, as we indicated in the date I had previously communicated to you. We have scheduled a new date for the joint site visit which is April 9 for the site assessments.

However, JW is best positioned to respond on factors that impacted our planned site visits.”

The publication reached out to JW for a comment on the cause of the delays on March 31, April 1, and April 2, but no comment was received on the time of publication.

Updates will be provided once they become available.
