ADT officer implicated in daylight robbery

BRAMLEY - A hold-up took a mysterious turn of events after police arrested an ADT officer who was allegedly involved in the incident.

Bramley police arrested two men after they had attempted to rob a Kew resident and his American guests just off Corlette Drive.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said according to the resident, he had driven home to meet with his guests and when he arrived, he noticed a man entering the yard after he had parked the car.

“When the resident noticed that the man was holding a gun, he quickly ran into the house and locked the door and called the police.” Maphakela added that the suspect shot at the front door twice while the victim was inside. “The resident then alerted police.”

However, the suspect was robbing the guests of their possessions because they were locked outside during the commotion. “The three guests were robbed of their wedding rings, dollars and watches,” said Maphakela. By the time the police arrived, the suspect then jumped over the wall and into an ADT security car.

“Police gave chase and arrested the two men in Bramley View at Cunning Road. The security guard (27) was charged with armed robbery while the other suspect (26) was charged with both armed robbery and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.”

Clive Humphrey, managing director of ADT central region said, “ADT cannot at this stage confirm any details as we are currently investigating all aspects of the incident. We take allegations of the involvement of our reaction officers in untoward activity very seriously and will investigate all evidence thoroughly.”

Everything has since been recovered and given back to the victims.

Maphakela advised members of the community to be vigilant when driving into their yards. “If you think you are being followed, rather drive to the nearest police station or petrol station. People should always have the sector vehicle numbers with them because officers on duty will be able to assist.”
