Follow-home robbers arrested
SANDTON - Three men are behind bars after they followed a victim from a bank and robbed him at gunpoint.
Sandton police spokesperson Captain Kym Cloete said on 23 July, at around 2.30pm, the victim withdrew money to pay his contractors. He deposited a large amount into the contractors’ account and took a small amount of cash to the construction site in Sunninghill. When he arrived, he noticed that he was being followed by two vehicles, a white Nissan Hardbody double-cab and a green BMW.
According to Cloete, six suspects were believed to be involved. They alighted from the vehicles and pointed firearms at the victim, demanding cash. They also took a bag and cellphones.
Cloete said, “Police were alerted and pursued the bakkie to the nearby Waterfal Hospital, where the suspects lost control of the bakkie and crashed.”
Three suspects were arrested on the scene and an unlicensed firearm was recovered, as well as some of the stolen property.
