Miss SA supports Casual day

JOBURG - Miss South Africa Marilyn Ramos spent a morning at the Sunshine Centre Association in support of the Casual Day campaign.

Ramos met the children, was given a tour of the school, exchanged Casual Day stickers and dispensed hugs at the centre dedicated to early childhood development of children with disabilities.

Casual Day public relations officer Andrea Vinassa said that Ramos was passionate about children and had spent much of her reign thus far advocating and caring for vulnerable children.

Ramos donned a Casual Day golf shirt and cap, and placed a sticker near her heart.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to help you kickstart the Casual Day campaign. Go big, and wear your sticker,” she said.

Ramos added that she would tweet about her support of the campaign in the month leading up to the day, which falls on 6 September.

“The theme is Go big! So whether you wear big hair, big glasses, a big tie, big shoes, or just go big on the number of stickers you wear, anything goes – as long as it’s big,” said Vinassa.

Sunshine Centre Association general manager Gerda Brown said the aim of the centre’s programmes was to promote the inclusion of children with disabilities in regular programmes and community life. The centre also catered for able-bodied preschool children as part of its inclusion programme.

“We have a shortfall in our funding from the government, and the funds we raise through Casual Day help to close that gap,” she said.

The centre was a top performer in the campaign which last year raised R22.2 million for charitable organisations around the country.
