Car thief nabbed in minutes
JOBURG - Bramley and Sandringham police's swift reaction led to the quick arrest of a car thief - just moments after he stole a car in Sandringham.
According to police reports, the owner arrived home, and, to his surprise, his beloved red old-model Volkswagen microbus was missing.
The microbus had been converted into a panel van. According to Bramley police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the owner immediately called the police.
The incident took place near the intersection of Alexandria and Kent Avenues. The police were instantaneously on the lookout for the car. Maphakela said, “We saw the car on the corner of Louis Botha Avenue and Corlett Drive and stopped it.”
He said the police arrested the driver. Maphakela added the thief had used an allen key (lock pick) to open the car.Â
The 37-year-old suspect was expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court soon.
