Music on the Square

MUSIC lovers are invited to visit the regular Friday lunch-time concerts at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square (Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton City).

Concerts commence from 12.45pm for 1pm each Friday and tickets are R35 (including coffee and biscuits).

On 9 August, there will be a special Women’s Day concert with touring violinist Joanna Westers from Amsterdam, accompanied by Anne Marshall, including works by Schumann, Dvorak and Saint-Saens.

On 16 August, Morne van Heerden will entertain on the clarinet, Andrea Erasmus, on the viola, and Belinda de Villiers, on the piano.

On 23 August, Luke Newby will perform on the clarinet and Peter Cartright, on the piano, with works by Brahms, Malcolm Arnold, Rosenblatt and South African composer Hendrik Hofmeyr.

On 30 August, Isabel Bradley and Susan van der Wat will perform romantic flute music, with sonatas by Kuhlau and Schubert.

On 6 September, there will be a cello-piano duo by Polina Burdukova (cello) and Kerryn Wisniewski (piano), including works by Schumann, Rossini and Chopin.

On 13 September the Goldberg Quartet will perform. This includes Zanta Hofmeyr and Daline Wilson, on the violin, Morkel Combrink, on the viola, and Wess Beukes, on the cello.

On 20 September, the Highveld Horns will perform works by Koetsier and Dauprat, and on 27 September, Opera Africa Young Artists will present classical songs and operatic favourites.
