Standard Bank vault floods
A secure vault which houses safety deposit boxes was damaged when a water leak occurred at the new Standard Bank branch in Sandton.

The branch, located on Alice Lane, experienced a water leak on the evening of 2 August after a fire hose malfunctioned. A small number of safety deposit boxes were affected.
“A fire hose on the premises adjacent to the Sandton Standard Bank Branch malfunctioned and caused water to penetrate the area of the branch where the safety deposit boxes are located,” said Standard Bank spokesperson, Ross Linstrom.
According to Linstrom, the branch has remained open for business and branch management has put corrective measures in place to ensure minimal impact and disruption to clients. Standard Bank has contacted customers affected to advise them to visit the branch at their earliest convenience and to inspect their boxes. Every effort has been made to ensure that the inspection process can be done in a safe, secure and private manner.
“Standard Bank has apologised to affected customers. Customers that have not been contacted can be assured that their safe deposit boxes have not been impacted by the water leak,” concluded Linstrom.
