Road closures for upgrade of Sandton Towers

Road closures will take place between 25 August and 1 September and between 15 September and 22 September for the refurbishment of the iconic Sandton Towers office complex.

Between 25 August and 1 September a portion of 5th Street, up to the intersection of Maude Street will be closed off.

The west bound lane of 5th Street will be closed up to the existing truck tunnel and tenant entrance, adjacent to 5th Street and up to the entrance of the hotel.

The level two basement parking entrance to Sandton City will be closed off during the period.

The East bound lane of 5th Street will be temporarily converted to a two way lane and West bound traffic on 5th Street will be diverted into the other lane, over the centre island. The road will be re-opened on the evening of 1 September.

5th Street will be open and the level 2 basement entrance will be open for a two week duration until the second closure starts.

The second closure will follow the same sequence as the first.

Trained flag men will be positioned at every traffic redirection point to minimise the disruption of traffic flow.

Pedestrians will be redirected to make use of the northern walkway along 5th Street to ensure their safety. Pedestrians will also be directed to use alternative entrances into the shopping centre.
