Agencies are parking off
BRYANSTON - The park on Krom Road in Bryanston is disgusting and a health hazard. This according to Maryjane Miller, a resident in the area.
She is disappointed by the ineffectiveness of City Parks, Joburg Water and the Johannesburg Roads Agency. “I am speaking on behalf of other residents living in the area,” she said. “Since the meeting held on site in December 2013, nothing agreed upon by all present –including the roads agency, City Parks and Joburg Water has been done.”
She said the roads agency started working on the storm water drains in January this year but nothing came of it. “There are a number of exposed manholes all over the park,” added Miller.
She said the storm water drains are also blocked and causing flooding in the area. “It used to be the perfect place to jog, have a picnic and walk your dogs, but now it is not even safe to be around here.”
Seemingly, the grass in the park is overgrown and the main stream is polluted and filthy. Miller added that she was shocked to find a man relieving himself in the park while she was walking her dog. “This was in broad daylight,” she said. “There is a dangerous hole in the park which was reported long ago, and all they did was to place a yellow beacon there. We do not accept any excuses such as lack of staff, resources or weather, it is an absolute disgrace.”|
Ward 102 councillor David Potter said the last time the grass was cut was in November 2013. Potter said he has been trying to get the roads agency, City Parks and Joburg Water to do something about the park, however nothing gets done.
Miller added, “The filth, sewage and garbage is disgusting and a health hazard.
“There are vagrants loitering making the area, which should be safe to use by the public, a big security risk.”
No comment was received from the roads agency, City Parks and Joburg Water by the time of publication.
