Children from St Stithians College in Sandton show off their talent at performing art showcase

SANDTON – The Just Imagine showcase saw girls from grades 5, 6 and 7 writing and performing their own scripts for teachers and family members.

Youngsters from St Stithians College hosted a performing art showcase at their school, where they had the opportunity to create their own pieces.

The Just Imagine showcase saw girls from grades 5, 6 and 7 writing and performing their own scripts for teachers and family members.

Celeste Gilardi, the head of St Stithians Girls’ Preparatory said, “Just Imagine was a celebration of the diverse talent of our girls. The girls embraced the opportunity to write and choreograph their own scripts for our school production.”

Gilardi added that she was incredibly proud of the work they produced as well as their confidence and creativity.

Sian May, the director of arts and culture at St Stithians said that because the school is an accredited Thinking School, the girls are able to write, direct and produce their own pieces, rather than being given a pre-written script and following a teacher’s instruction.

The show included a variety of different pieces including short one-act plays, stand-up comedy, solo song and instrument items, poetry and numerous disciplines of dance.

The girls were expected to select their own music, sound effects, backdrop pictures and costumes and to liaise with a professional audio-visual team to programme in the best sound and lighting for their scenes. The end result was an evening of slick pieces expertly woven into a tapestry of the finest talent.

“Astonishing the audience with their level of confidence and attention to detail, the girls did the school and their parents proud and certainly left everyone wishing that school had been as much fun when they were there,” concluded May.
