Quick reaction is needed to act against food poisoning

JOBURG – Food poisoning can happen at any moment, these are some of the tips that can help prevent and alleviate the symptoms.


An upset stomach is not pleasant, particularly when it is caused by eating food that is contaminated.

Food poisoning can be fatal, we have read stories across the country of incidences of food poisoning at schools, home’s and even on the street.

Emer-G-Med released this information about food poisoning that you need to be aware of.

Symptoms of food poisoning:

  • Stomach cramps
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Fever
  • Sore joints

It is important to keep hydrated, drinks lots of water, if you can only take small sips at a time, then do so. Eat bland food if you can such as plain toast, rice and a banana.

In cases of dehydration of persons over the age of 60, children or people with chronic diseases, it is advisable to see a doctor.

Remember to wash your hands before meal prep, when you about to eat and cook food thoroughly.  Check the expiry date of foods and check the food labels as they tend to inform you of the right way to store the food.
