Huge success this Slipper Day
ILLOVO – According to CEO Julia Sotirianakos, it was great to see the community come together to support the foundation after the event was postponed last year on account of the lockdown.
Needless to say, this year’s Slipper Day was one to remember.
Spearheaded by the Reach for a Dream foundation, the one-day campaign on 7 May saw hundreds of people donning their best and comfiest slippers, raising over R6.2-milion.
The campaign not only raised funds for the foundation but it is also served as a fitting reminder of all the children fighting life-threatening diseases as well as the doctors, nurses and families who devote their lives to these children.
According to CEO Julia Sotirianakos, it was great to see the community come together to support the foundation after the event was postponed last year on account of the lockdown.
She added that in a normal year Reach for a Dream would fulfil an estimated six dreams a day but since the pandemic hit, circumstances have drastically changes which forced the foundation to adapt and innovate according.
“We’ve never done it (raise R6.2 million) before and it just speaks to the generosity of South Africans and how schools, corporates and individuals came together to really prove that dreams can’t be locked down,” she said.
The funds raised will allow the foundation to fulfil the dreams of more children living with life-threatening diseases.
It will also be used to support the foundation’s virtual reality hospitals.
“I would just like to thank the retail partners, Dischem Pharmacy, Pick n Pay and Wimpy for their partnership in achieving this amazing milestone of being able to reach this R6.2 million,” Sotirianakos concluded.
