A reinstatement for disaster
SANDTON – The reinstatement was the result of a major pipe burst that occurred in front of the residential complex in March.
The unfinished reinstatement of the road surface along Katherine Street continues to claim more vehicles.
The reinstatement of the left-hand lane in front of Moor Park residential complex was allegedly the cause of a recent three-car pile-up.
According to Moor Park resident Christopher Glisson, it still remains a great concern for residents, not only because it interrupts the entry and exit lanes of the complex but the accident reportedly occurred at 10am.
“This occurred during broad daylight, heaven forbid nighttime collisions when Katherine Street becomes a test track for high powered cars,” he said.
Glisson added that there were still no warning beacons or signs at the site other than those erected by the residential complex itself. “I foresee a calamity coming with not only serious injuries but possible fatalities.”
The reinstatement, previously reported by The Chronicle in Water pipe bursts a concern [Week ending 23 April], was the result of a major pipe burst that occurred in front of the residential complex in March.
In the article, Johannesburg Water spokesperson Isaac Dhludhlu said the pipe was repaired in March, noting that it was the responsibility of Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to carry out the reinstatement on the road and pavement.
“According to the depot manager, this was scheduled for 8 June, however, the depot had to be closed immediately due to a Covid-19 case,” said JRA spokesperson Mosa Makhalima.
He added that the depot had since begun preparations at the site and the reinstatement was scheduled to be done by 11 June at the latest.
