Support the work of this local animal charity

GALLO MANOR – Gersun encourages community members who care for animals to support her work through donations of time or money.

Gallo Manor resident and founder of Save our Cats and Canines animal charity Ilona Gersun appeals to animal lovers to assist her with donations of money or time.

Gersun said she began the charity 16 years ago when she saw some children from Alexandra walking up her street towards the vet with sick puppies.

The charity now works to feed and sterilise eight feral cat colonies, supports residents of Alexandra with animal food, veterinary expenses and other supplies, and supports the work of Klipgat Animal Organisation in the North West.

“I desperately need sponsors to assist with vet bills, donations of food, blankets and kennels. I cannot cope on my own with all the financial responsibility and time,” said Gersun.

She explained that her work helped take a small load off the local SPCA and provided education and support for Alexandra residents.

“The need in Alex is so overwhelming. There are so many strays and there is a lack of knowledge and education in the area. In these areas, there is nowhere to take the sick animals and such a lack of resources. If people don’t help then pets just suffer.”

She began her work to feed and sterilise local feral cat colonies in 2017.

“I trap the cats and ensure that the cats are sterilised. I visit the colonies each day to feed the cats.”

The colonies that she supports are located in Gallo Manor, Woodmead, Wendywood and Sandown.

She urged those who feel for the plight of animals to join her by donating their money or time to the cause. Finances can go directly into her vet’s account to ensure accountability.
