Five suspects charged with possession of unlicensed firearms in Sandton

SANDTON – Three suspects from the ages of 19, 24 and 30, were caught by Captain Bheki Xulu and an ADT security officer with a possession of an unlicensed revolver (firearm)

Sandton police arrested five suspects who were in possession of illegal firearms in two separate incidents on August 21.

In the first incident, during a police stop and search operation, two individuals in a Honda were stopped on the corner of Impala Road and Spartan Crescent in Eastgate. Officers discovered an unlicensed firearm which had its serial number filed off and live ammunition.

The second incident occurred on the corner of Bowling and Alma avenues in Wendywood. Three suspects, aged 19, 24 and 30, were arrested by Captain Bheki Xulu and an ADT security officer for the possession of an unlicensed firearm. It was later discovered that the firearm had been stolen.

All suspects appeared in Alexander Magistrates’ Court on August 23.

Sandton Police Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley urged members of the community to report any suspicious behaviour related to criminal activities.
