Springbok legends host rugby clinics for youth and coaches
LYME PARK – Taking place at St Stithians College from October 16 to 17, the clinics are open to all coaches and youth between the ages of eight and 18 across all levels.
Join Springbok rugby legends Braam van Straaten and Robbi Kempson as they host a series of rugby clinics for coaches and youth in Johannesburg.
Taking place at St Stithians College from October 16 to 17, the clinics are open to all coaches and youth between the ages of eight and 18 across all levels.
Robbi Kempson has served the game of rugby on various levels and continues to do so as a coach at the Kings.
Kempson, who provides expert analysis on television, represented the Springboks in 37 test matches as a prop between 1998 and 2003.
Van Straaten scored an unbelievable 56.52% of the Springboks’ points during his test career of 21 matches between 1999 and 2001.
This is the biggest percentage by any player in the history of Springbok rugby.
The rugby clinic includes:
16 October: Kicking clinic presented by Van Straaten:
– how to find your perfect kick
– Place kicking insight
– Movement detail: place kick and kicking out of hand
– Movement patterns and pattern breakers
– On-field analysis and faults correction
– How to train
– Kicking analysis feedback.
17 October: Attacking clinic presented by Van Straaten:
– accuracy, speed and agility
– Re-alignment
– Little known aspects and secrets of ball handling, catching and passing
– Speed agility and use of special awareness skills
– How to attack space
– Understanding running lines, creating your own time and space that gives you accuracy.
17 October: Forwards progression and scrums clinic presented by Kempson:
– Body preparation, techniques and mentality
– Lifting techniques, movement and jumping techniques
– Hooker throwing – accuracy, skill and core hooker conditioning
– Core – shape and binding
– Scrum progression
– Individual, unit and team technique
– Conditioning
– Mental awareness
– Nutrition
