Karate teaches youngster important lesson

Redhill School’s Sarah Rotshtein nabbed a double podium finish at this year’s Karate South African National Development Championships.

Not only did the nine-year-old take home a gold medal for kumite (fighting) but she was also awarded with a silver medal for kata for the girls U8/9 (30kgs) category.
After discovering her love for martial arts at the age of three, karate has taught Sarah an important life lesson of never giving up the fight.
“It [the win] meant everything to me, that I got gold and silver, everything is possible,” she said.
Sarah currently trains under sensei Stef Biagioni from the Fourways Martial Arts Academy.
