Learners and a teacher from Bryanston High School come third in provincial league

BRYANSTON – Anastasija Millic, Ashleigh Gray and Luyanda Gumede, who all started playing netball at early stages, let their skills and hard work do all the talking.

Bryanston High School celebrated its two learners and an educator who were selected to represent the Central Gauteng Action Netball and the Northern Gauteng Action Netball in the Inter-Provincial Tournament.

The tournament took place in Centurion from October 12 to 16.

Anastasija Millic, Ashleigh Gray and Luyanda Gumede – who all started playing netball at early stages – let their skills and hard work do all the talking when they played against other provincial teams in the tournament. The yearly tournament allows young netball players to showcase their talent at a large scale where competing and scouting falls under one roof.

This year’s dream team, which consisted of three individuals from Bryanston High School, led the team to third place. This accomplishment was truly not a walk at the park. Every player left the arena with sweat, tears and bruises to show their dedication to winning the tournament.

First team coach of Bryanston High School, Nadia Johnson, expressed her joy on seeing her players representing the school and province to high standards. “I am extremely proud of Luyanda and Anastasija and Miss Gray. They are very talented young ladies and it is a privilege to have them as part of our Bryanston netball family, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.”

Youngster Anastasija, who resides in Sandton, remembers the final moments of her final match in the tournament like it was just yesterday. “My highlight of the tournament was looking at the timer for the last minute of the final and knowing we were going to take the bronze medal,” she said.
