SANDTON – Thandi Tshabalala played for the national side before discovering his passion for mentoring and coaching.

Cover Drive Cricket School looks forward to an exciting future after recently welcoming former Proteas’ cricketer Thandi Tshabalala to the team.

The local cricket school, based in Bryanston, caters to players from the U7 to U19 age group.

He discovered Cover Drive Cricket School from a past tournament they hosted.

“I believe in growth so [with Cover Drive] I wanted to be part of something that has the potential to grow. I think that there is a lot more satisfaction when you start something small and it can become something bigger – it is exciting,” said Tshabalala.

According to Cover Drive head coach Sydwell Ndlovu, the school jumped at the opportunity to have the former Protea join the team.

“I think that as a cricketer you always follow cricketers, I always knew Thandi was part of the national team and when we got the opportunity to get him around we welcomed it for him to become a mentor and an adviser. I think that he will be very handy in our junior set-up and our coaching structures,” said Ndlovu.

Cover Drive is also currently in the preparation stage for its upcoming cricket festival which is sure to attract various players of all age groups, schools, areas and skill levels.

The festival is set to be hosted at Bryanston High School from December 4 to 6 (public schools) and December 16 to 18 (private schools).
