Sandton Police Station honours Captain Malusi Kekana

Sandton Police Station extends its condolences to the family and friends of Captain Malusi Kekana.

Members of the Sandton police and the Sandton Community Policing Forum (CPF) honoured the life of their late colleague and friend, Captain Malusi Kekana.

Captain Kekana served the community of Sandton for more than two decades and was considered as being humble and kind to his officers. Prior to his passing on April 3, the captain was admitted to hospital for numerous days in March.

A memorial service, organised by the station, welcomed the late Captain’s family at the Rivonia Catholic Church on April 7. Station Commander for the Sandton Police Station, Brigadier Egen Moodley, shared a few memories of Kekana at the service.

“The Captain was well respected by everyone and he truly loved what he did. There were times when he would call me in the early hours of the morning just to discuss solutions to challenges that the station would face at the time. I thank the family for allowing him to work with us as he was a very dedicated and highly appreciated captain. We thank him for all that he has done for the station and for the Sandton community. He will be sorely missed,” said the Moodley.

Sandton Corporate Communication officer, Captain Bheki Xulu shared, “We as the officials would often have discussions amongst ourselves in connection to our profession and even our personal life. He [Captain Kekana] never discriminated or excluded himself from the informal group gatherings. During the sessions, he would listen to each member quietly and if somebody was going through tough times, he would then speak and advise them. The one thing that everyone is going to miss the most about the Captain is definitely his kindness and smile.”

Captain Kekana will be buried at his hometown in Ga-Mashashane, Limpopo on April 9. The Sandton Chronicle extends its condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
