Bryanston High cyclist scores podium finish for SA
Bryanston High School’s prodigy cyclist Massimiliano Ambrosi continues to live out his dreams after grabbing a podium finish at the African Continental Mountain Bike Champions.
Bryanston High School’s very own Massimiliano Ambrosi has an extensive cycling career ahead of him with big dreams of participating in the Olympics one day.
He recently took a major step to achieve this dream, finishing on the podium for team South Africa at the African Continental Mountain Bike Championships in Namibia.
According to Massimiliano, while this year’s championship was challenging, it was an equally amazing experience.
“Namibia saw a very demanding course in addition to the fierce competition and heat,” he said.
The junior cyclist worked extremely hard alongside his coach, Coach Inc SA, to prepare for the fierce tournament.
“With arriving the day before the race, I had little time to prepare myself and get my lines dialed in on the course, but I knew I had to make it happen if I wanted a decent shot at the race and be in line for podium contention.”
The next day was race day which saw Massimiliano tackle the heat in the Junior Men five-lap race.
“I knew from the start that the race was going to be flat-out and I was not mistaken. I pushed through those five laps as hard as I could and managed to secure a solid third place amongst some of the strongest junior men in Africa.”
He shared a special message of thanks to his family, school and sponsors who not only supported along the way but helped him chase his dreams.
“This is the first of many milestones that I have to reach in order to achieve my dream of riding competitively overseas. Representing my country was a great honour and I hope to have the privilege to do it again soon.”
