Sandton Action Sports reveals the winners of the hockey winter season
Sandton Action Sports arena hosts the final winter season games of hockey and announce the winners on June 21.
The first hockey season at the Sandton Action Sports arena reached its conclusion with high intensity games on June 21.
The first match of the night was Goal Diggers against Above Average. The match was like no other with the teams locked at 5–5 at the final whistle. The match went into five minutes extra-time and it was Goal Diggers who scored the decider.

“We started off as the underdogs, so it’s nice to see the progress from day one to today,” said Goal Diggers player Natalie Billson.
“I did not expect to be named the player of the match. Before we started, myself and the captain [Lindsay McFarlane] told the team to run our legs off and we’ll sub once feeling tired. Confidence is key so we are going to drink before every match next season.”

The final match was a bit more one-sided. Ernst & Young Stormers were up against the Imposters who had dominated the winter season. So it was no surprise when the Imposters won 5–2 with Scot Cooper named player of the match after bagging four of the five goals.

Kristy Devine, captain of the Imposters said, “At the end of the day the table takes care of itself. We just want to play a good brand of hockey and get more people involved. Every single team in the league has gotten better every game.”

Goal Diggers were awarded bronze medals, Ernst & Young silver and the Imposters took home gold.
