Brescia House swimmer dominates in gala

Brescia House school learner Natania Komakech recently dominated at the Tshwane Mayors Gala, taking home gold across five events.

Brescia House School learner Natania Komakech continues to excel in the water, recently dominating in this year’s Tshwane Mayors Gala in Hillcrest.
According to Natania, the three-day gala in Pretoria was a challenge but a good learning experience nonetheless.

“In all the races, I was in the last heats and it was nerve-wracking to be in races with 16 to 17-year-olds, for a 13-year-old. After each race, I would feel a huge pressure lifted off my back and looking at the race time on the electric board made me feel happy.”

Brescia House School learner Natania Komakech takes home five gold medals and one silver.

She added that day three was the most terrifying because she was competing in her least favourite events, the 200m individual medley and 50m butterfly and was relieved when it was over.

In the end, Natania achieved gold in the 100m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

She also achieved silver in the 200m freestyle and placed fourth in the 50m butterfly.

Natania said her main goal at the gala was to improve her time in reach race and obtain personal beats.

Needless to say, it was mission accomplished as she achieved personal bests in all seven races she competed in.
