Update on 72 reinstatements in Bryanston
Locals in Bryanston are urged to note that the 72 reinstatements submitted to Joburg Water are in the process of getting fixed.
Reminding and checking up on Joburg Water about different issues related to them has become a thing in Bryanston.
Finally, the JW has responded to the inquiry we reported about the outstanding 72 reinstatements in Bryanston.
According to Ward 102 councillor David Potter, early this year, he submitted a formal list of 72 known reinstatements overdue to the executive management of Joburg Water.
He kept following up but never got any response.
As Joburg Water was not giving the 72 reinstatements the attention they deserved, Potter reached out to the Chronicle, hoping JW would reply to the media.
Joburg Water spokesperson Nolwazi Dhlamini said Joburg Water is aware of the 72 reinstatement jobs in the areas, and 70 of them fall under the Zandfontein South Depot.
“The reinstatement contractor was required to measure and quote on each job and submit by the close of business on May 2. Orders were confirmed by May 4, with work to commence on May 8. The projected completion date is the end of June 2023.”
Regarding Ferndale, the two mentioned sites will be addressed within three weeks.
“It is important to note that because work is scheduled according to capacity, some reinstatement jobs may take longer to complete. Johannesburg Water is facing a huge backlog of reinstatements around the city, which we are working around the clock with internal teams and service providers to complete.”
Dhlamini explained that the company currently has a backlog of over 4 400 backfilling or reinstatements that need their attention and efforts are being made to get this completed before the end of this financial year (June 2023).
“With over 15 200 reinstatement jobs completed thus far, the entity is steadily making inroads and excessive rain delays the process of reinstatements as was the case at the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023, and ageing infrastructure also plays a role in that as the number of bursts increases, the number of excavations also increases.”
