Talented musician Musa Manzini has passed

Musa made headline news in 2018, when he underwent an awake craniotomy, where he played the guitar while the surgeons removed the tumour.

Ferndale-based celebrated jazz musician Musa Manzini has passed away on the morning of May 15, at the Helen Joseph Hospital after suffering a fatal seizure.

The KwaZulu-Natal star struggled with a recurring brain tumour which started in 2006. Through surgery the tumour was removed but grew back years later.

A highly talented and prolific musician, Musa was known for his exceptional skill as a bass guitar player. He has performed across continents and countries.

His performances include the South Africa North Sea Jazz Festival (later the Cape Town International Jazz Festival), cultural festivals in New Orleans, Joy of Jazz, Muscat, Jazzathon, Arts Alive, Sao Pãolo, Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires.

He released five albums, namely, New Reflections (2000), Tributes & Memories (2002), My Bass (2004), Simply Life (2007), Best of Musa Manzini (2009), Trust in Love (2012).

Musa will be laid to rest in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal on May 20.
