Trending Google search results this year

Ever wondered what people usually search for on Google? Here is the list to answer your burning question.

We consulted Google Trends – a tool that analyses the popularity of Google search terms to see what South Africans mostly browsed for in the search engine this year. We found that the South African Social Security Agency, the weather, and betting are some of the terms that made it to the top search results in South Africa.

  • South African Social Security Agency

The reason South Africans search for the social security agency for queries related to payment dates, they want to know if there is an increase and check their sassa statuses, according to, Google Trends.

  • Weather

It is truly relevant to know what the weather looks like before heading out to start your day. The weather is also one of the top trends that South Africans browse on the internet according to Google Trends.

  •  Betting

South Africans google Hollywood bets because they want to log into the betting operator so that they can try their luck at winning some cash. However, people in Limpopo province are the ones who mostly google the betting operator because the province is rated number one on Google Trends under betting. The last out of the top five is Northwest, while Gauteng did not make it to the list.

  • Download

WhatsApp, music, and APK format files are some of the reasons ‘downloading’ is one of the top terms from the Google search engines.

  • Topic

These are the trending discussions that South Africans often love to talk about. This year, they mostly googled the Rugby World Cup; the public holidays, the calendar, and computer software applications to find out how they work amongst other topics.
