A successful 2023 for the Imbumba Foundation

Imbumba Foundation says that since the Covid-19 outbreak, they are very proud to have provided humanitarian relief to over 40 000 families affected by various natural disasters across the country.

The Imbuba Foundation had a successful 2023 as they supported over 400 000 girls through the Caring4Girls programme across all provinces in South Africa, together with many of their long-standing partners.

Grateful as they are for their beneficiaries, Mmakgotso Dhladhla, who started her first year at Wits University studying actuarial science, has been a true testament as to why the Caring4Girls programme is effective in ensuring that girls get access to opportunities and do not miss school due to a lack of access to menstrual support.

According to Sina Moyane, the communications manager at the organisation, the previous year had employee volunteerism, whereby employees from various organisations raised money to support indigent girls with menstrual hygiene and puberty education.

Mmakgotso Dhladhla a Caring4Girls beneficiary is currently in her first year at Wits University in actuarial science.

“We had two very successful Trek4Mandela Expeditions, where 20 inspired individuals from all walks of life summitted Kilimanjaro on Mandela Day and Women’s Day in support of keeping girl children in school.”

She explained that the 20 climbers collectively managed to raise enough funds to support over 5,500 girl children this year and restore dignity as part of their climb.

“Outside of the annual Kilimanjaro climb, Trek4Mandela also introduced an annual Otter Trail hike this year in October as a fundraising initiative for the Vision 20/20 youth development programme. The Otter Trail, under Trek4Mandela, will be open to any individuals who enjoy hiking for a good cause.”

Moyane added that through their Vision 20/20 youth development programme, they supported over 1200 students across six provinces in South Africa.

Tshepo Ramodibe, the head of Corporate Affairs at the IDC providing dignity packs to boy and girl learners in Mpumalanga on Mandela Day 2023, under the IDC We Care Staff Volunteer Programme.

“We also had three big career expos with matriculating learners and various partners to inspire and instil hope that they can achieve their dreams through hard work and dedication, ahead of their final examinations.”

She highlighted that, as an organisation, they want to thank the Imbumba Foundation staff members for their dedication to ensuring that the youth and wider communities are empowered through their various programmes.

“We would also like to thank all of our partners, namely Glencore, South32, Dis-Chem Foundation, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa, Miss South Africa Organisation and Forever New, Banking Association South Africa, Old Mutual Insure, AngloGold Ashanti, the IDC, the JSE, Shell, Airlink, West Pack Lifestyle, and Big Save, for their unwavering and continuous support.”

Founder and CEO of the Imbumba Foundation, Richard Mabaso, said that it is with immense gratitude that he takes time to thank all of their partners who supported them throughout 2023 and have continued to show their support for empowering girl children, youth, and underprivileged communities.

“It is through such support that has assisted the longevity of the Imbumba Foundation over the past 13 years. May we continue to work together to tackle the social ills still faced by many across South Africa and beyond. I would also like to thank our ambassadors for their continued support in motivating and inspiring the youth, as well as all staff members for their hard work, long hours, and dedication.”
