Thrilling hockey and bowls to anticipate in Morningside

Morningside has a lot to look forward to in 2024.

Weekends in Sandton are seldom uneventful socially, as community members have a variety of social and sporting clubs to frequent for recreational entertainment. Morningside is no exception, and the community country club has a busy schedule heading into the second month of the new year.

Morningside Country Club manager Steve Smit said that the club would be arranging new catering solutions for their institution this year.

“Welcome back to Morningside Country Club. As you know, our motto is ‘the club of choice’, and we’re going to take it even further this year on this socials side of the club,” said Smit, addressing the community on Saturday 20. “Our caterer is leaving at the end of February. We’re in the process of bringing in fantastic things with regards to catering and restaurant towards building that aspect again.”

The club is beloved by the community for their hockey, and bowls – though Smit emphasized that there is a lot more to do at the club than just that.

“We’ve got tennis, we’ve got cricket nets, and our padel courts which are very popular,” Smit said. “On the bowls front we’ve got some young bowlers, and we invite more young bowlers to come and join us. Our astro is booked for use for the Joburg Hockey league–so we’re looking forward to that, it’s going to be a big one on the hockey front.”

Smit concluded his welcoming note for the community with a massive announcement.

“On the social side, once again, we are looking at bringing award-winning artists and performers down from Cape Town to do a Cabaret evening with us.”
