Redhill students excel in judo and karate competitions
Redhill school martial artists bring their successes home to Gauteng.
In an exceptional demonstration of skill, commitment, and sportsmanship, two Redhill school learners have earned prestigious honours in two recently held martial arts competitions.
Grade 8 learner Adam Isabelle represented South Africa at the Judo Commonwealth Games in Malta from April 4–7; Sarah Rothstein in Grade 7, successfully participated in the Karate South Africa (KSA) National Championship held in KZN between April 5 – 6.
Adam was awarded his official Protea colours, a significant honour in South African sports, recognising his exceptional talent and dedication to judo. Adam showcased his determination in the under 60kg weight category, securing a second-place finish, and bringing home a silver medal.
That same weekend, Sarah clinched the gold medal in kumite, earning her the title of SA Champion for 2024 in her age and weight category. Sarah has been selected to represent South Africa at the African Karate Federation Regions South Championship 2024 in Namibia, a testament to her outstanding abilities and promise in the sport.
Both learners earned praise from Maheshwari Lall, who heads Redhill’s Middle School. Celebrating their respective accomplishments, Lall highlighted that Adam and Sarah embody the school’s core values of commitment, courage, and confidence.
“These young athletes have shown incredible dedication to their disciplines,” Lall remarked. “Their achievements are a direct result of their hard work and persistence behind the scenes.
“However, it’s not just their accomplishments that make us proud; it’s who they are as individuals. They embody the spirit of our school values, demonstrating commitment in their rigorous training, courage in facing competitors on the international stage, and confidence in their abilities to succeed.”
