Businesswomen build one another in Sandton

Africa Reconnect hosted businesswomen for a day of empowered networking in Sandton.

The fifth instalment of the Business Reconnect networking seminar was held in Wierda Valley on April 18.

Women in entrepreneurship at varying levels attended the event, which was characterised by information sharing, and a special keynote address by Advocate Patricia Masinga-Thobejane.

Noting how unkind to self and others that women can be, Masinga-Thobejane’s words sought to spur the women in attendance towards self-loving, prayerful lives of tirelessly pursuing goals aligned with leading fulfilling lives at the end of the day. “I was crushed, pruned, and challenged by life,” said Masinga-Thobejane, reflecting on her journey through heartache and child-loss, towards overcoming these challenges, and building the empire of her dreams.

“I decided to use all those character-building challenges that I faced to fuel me as a person. This morning, I just want to say to everyone who is here – just know that pain can fuel or destroy you if it’s not channelled properly.”

The key takeaway from Masinga-Thobejane’s address was her conviction to give a voice to disempowered women. Emphasizing caring and kindness as the new currency of the world, Masinga-Thobejane encouraged women to become valuable assets to everyone in their circle and take ownership of their lives and vision as figures in business.

Miranda My Coach motivational coach Miranda Mayekiso followed Masinga-Thobejane’s address. Mayekiso’s presentation was described as a guided meditation aimed at grounding guests in the present moment of their lives. She encouraged all the women in attendance to treat their imagination as a muscle and exercise it frequently towards positioning themselves where they wish to be.

“If you don’t practice your imagination, it doesn’t work,” Mayekiso said.

“Know how powerful and resourceful your mind is. Your wealth is in your mind; your whole life is in your mind. If you use your imagination, you can completely change your whole life.”
