Sandton celebrates 2024 Paralympic Games’ hero and record-breaker

Investec recently hosted a momentous homecoming event for Mpumelelo Mhlongo, South Africa’s Paralympic champion and multi-world record holder, following his awe-inspiring performance at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

Mhlongo, born with a congenital disability affecting his right foot, competes in the T44/F44 classification for athletes with limb impairments.

At the Paris Games, he won the gold in the men’s 100m T44, a bronze in the men’s 200m T64, and set two world records in the men’s 200m T44 and long jump T44.

“When I achieved the gold and bronze and broke world records, it felt like the world paused for me to take it all in,” he shared, the joy evident in his voice.

“I am grateful for all the support I receive from my family, friends, Investec, and my supporter,” he added. “It truly means a lot to me.”
