Locals are invited to Ernest Ullmann parkrun

Locals in Morningside and the surrounding areas are encouraged to join the Ernest Ullmann parkrun community every Saturday.

Ernest Ullmann Park in Morningside Manor is the place to be every Saturday morning as runners, walkers, families, and volunteers gather for the free 5km Ernest Ullmann parkrun.

According to the parkrun director, Bernadette Phillips, on August 23, the park was buzzing with excitement as the community celebrated the event’s 8th anniversary.

Ward 109 councillor Lori Coogan joined in the celebrations, praising the event for encouraging healthy living while also ensuring that local green spaces are cared for and enjoyed by residents.

Phillips invited people to join and said the parkrun is about so much more than fitness.

“It’s about people coming together, supporting one another, and celebrating the joy of being active in a safe and welcoming space.”

She added that whether one is looking to walk, jog, run, bring a pram, or even a dog on a lead, everyone is welcome.

“There are no entry fees, no barriers, and no pressure, just a beautiful route through Ernest Ullmann Park, fresh air, and community spirit.”

Phillips stated that with 225 parkruns across South Africa and Discovery Health as the national sponsor, this movement continues to bring people together through health, well-being, and friendship.

Event director Jason Wood jumped in and said, “Come and enjoy the outdoors in a beautiful park that’s right on your doorstep. We do love to welcome you to our parkrun community.”
