The IIE students and staff embrace a new identity as three powerhouse institutions unite under one banner... Emeris.
Students and staff at The IIE’s Varsity College Sandton are stepping into 2026 with a bold new identity. A name that unites three of South Africa’s most respected private education brands: Varsity College, IIE-Vega, and IIE MSA.
Together, they now form Emeris. Education that is real-world ready, and a new brand built on innovation, collaboration, and a future-focused approach to higher learning.
The announcement, made in September 2025, marks a defining moment in the institutions shared history.

According to head of campus Kimberly McIntyre, the move represents far more than a simple rebrand. “Our philosophy has always been about real-world readiness. By joining forces, we can give students even more access to quality education, and prepare them to be changemakers in an evolving world.”
The new name signals a stronger, more unified direction for The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), under which Emeris will continue to operate. The IIE remains registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training as a private higher education institution, and continues to deliver accredited qualifications across its campuses nationwide.
McIntyre believes the rebrand reflects a renewed commitment to inclusivity, creativity, and academic excellence. “It’s not just about a new logo or name; it’s about aligning our vision with the needs of modern students, to create spaces where innovation, diversity, and opportunity meet.”

The transition follows an eventful 2025 for the Sandton campus, which saw the launch of a new community law clinic and major progress on its state-of-the-art campus on Grayston Drive. “2025 redefined who we are and how we serve our students. It was a year of growth and transformation, and we’re proud to carry that same energy into this next chapter… As Emeris.”
With the new academic year around the corner, students can look forward to studying under a name that reflects both the institution’s proud legacy and its forward-looking spirit.
