Local restaurant rocks the foodie world

TEMPO Luxury Restaurant has been bestowed with coveted awards at the South African Restaurant Awards.

TEMPO rocked the foodie world by chowing down two top honours – Best Restaurant in Johannesburg 2024 and Best Restaurant in Sandton 2024! The South African Restaurant Awards showcase excellence in cuisine, highlighting the best dining experience in the country which is voted for by the public.

“Thank you to all our incredible supporters for helping us achieve this milestone. Your unwavering support means the world to us, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Here’s to many more unforgettable dining experiences together,” said the TEMPO’s team.
Situated in the heart of Sandton, Rivonia is happy to call this upmarket venue home.

With a full-length glittering Instagram wall, an expansive floor, and everything from cosy, private rooms for private groups to dining tables decked out across the floor to easy seating on the patio outside, a 360-degree bar as the centre, and couches in pre-booked, high-energy lounges or cabanas, you’re sure to have a good time.

There are multiple layers to this space, and each has a different feel depending on the time of day. When the afternoon winds down, what’s more attractive is the casual seating outside, which is ideal for kicking back with a drink or two and enjoying a leisurely lunch, as you wind down as well.
When the restaurant opened in 2023, the food offering was on the slimmer side, served mainly as small dishes on the side to nibble on. But after a menu revamp in early 2024, lunch and dinner have taken on a different face.

The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Bonga Williams, who comes from Gqeberha and trained at Marble under David Higgs. He describes his menu as “African-inspired modern cuisine” and has a good selection of small plates that would be best enjoyed as shared portions, salads, main dishes, a sushi section, and a small dessert menu.
