The renaming of William Nicol Drive commences

The city and JRA advise commuters to expect delays between 09:30 and 12:00.

The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) has commenced with the ceremony to rename William Nicol Drive to Winnie Mandela Drive on September 26.

In 2018, the City of Johannesburg embarked on an initiative to rename the iconic William Nicol Drive to Winnie Mandela Drive, paying a heartfelt tribute to the esteemed liberation stalwart, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

The date of this occasion coincides with Winnie’s birthday.

Street signs that formerly read William Nicol at the intersection of Sandton Drive are being unveiled.
