National quiz competition at Varsity College Sandton

A quiz is a form of game or mind sport in which players attempt to answer questions correctly on one of several specific topics.

The IIE’s Varsity College Sandton hosted 90 learners from various schools in the Johannesburg region for the first round of the National High Schools’ Quiz.

The learners participated in quiz trivia based on general knowledge of geography, history, nature, science, entertainment, current affairs, and sports.

Anto Kagisho, the public relations and events coordinator at the campus, explained that this national quiz was a buildup to the regional final that will be hosted at the campus.

“Each regional winner will receive a Samsung tablet, a cash prize of R 2500, the regional winner’s coach or teacher will receive an R500 retail voucher and an R10000 cash prize will be awarded to the regional winner and their respective school.”

Grade 10 Crawford International College Lonehill learner Tej Kistasamy emphasised how excited she was to be competing in this year’s National High Schools’ Quiz.

“I remember how I panicked when I started preparing for the quiz but with the help and support of my coach and teacher Miss Lerisha Singh I was ready for this first round. I used various techniques to prepare I looked up South African history in more depth, studied past question papers and caught up on a lot of news and current affairs to get myself on track with what is happening around me.”

Kistasamy added that she cannot wait for the regional round and hope to make it to the final round and keep the winning title in Gauteng.
